The Story of Huang Bijiang: A Legacy of Eco-Farming and Cultural Heritage

Since 2009, Nirvana Organic Farm Inn has partnered with Hong Kong Partnerships for Community Development (PCD) to support local eco-farmers under the principles of permaculture: caring for the earth, caring for people and sharing the surplus. Initially, a cooperative was formed in Xingping, bringing together 13 farming households and among them, Huang Bijiang stood out as the only female participant. She began her journey with eco-farming in 2010 and for the past 15 years, she has remained steadfast in her commitment. Now at 56, Huang is one of the few remaining eco-farmers in Xingping who has persevered with these sustainable practices.

Huang’s dedication to eco-farming is driven by two main reasons:

Firstly, she loves what she does. She believes that eco-farming is beneficial for both her family’s health and her own well-being. This passion is the core reason she has persisted for so long.

Secondly, she has successfully built a brand reputation. Initially, her sales channels were limited, but as time went on, more and more people began to recognize the quality of her products. With persistence, she managed to establish a robust network for logistics and delivery. Today her products are trusted nationwide, especially her value-added products made from eco-friendly fruits, such as dried fruits and preserves, which are found in markets all over China. This steady income and growing brand recognition have provided her with the motivation to continue her eco-farming journey.

We are privileged to collaborate with Huang Bijiang in creating eco-friendly products. Under her guidance, guests will have the opportunity to learn how to make organic dried fruits and preserves, and to deeply experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture. This workshop is not just about making handcrafted products; it is an enriching journey of heritage and harmony with nature.
