Cormorant Fishing: A Timeless River Adventure

Get ready to experience a fascinating tradition that has been practiced along the Li River for centuries—cormorant fishing! Imagine yourself floating on a bamboo raft, surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes that took millions of years to form, as you watch local fishermen demonstrate this ancient and ingenious method of fishing.

We’ll be cruising down the Li River with towering karst mountains rising on both sides. As we drift, you’ll see the fishermen gliding by with cormorants perched and ready for action. The cormorants dive into the river, skill-fully darting through the water in search of fish. This unique partnership between bird and fisherman has been perfected over hundreds of years!

After about 30-45 minutes of watching the cormorants in action, you’ll get a special treat: a chance to pose for photos with the cormorants perched on a bamboo pole across your shoulders!

This isn’t just a scenic journey—it’s a river adventure and a cultural experience that connects you with the age-old tradition of Chinese fishermen living in harmony with nature, finding sustenance from the river’s bounty.
